  • Cabin for Rent

    The cabin is about 700 square feet and very rustic and remote. It has one bedroom and is wood heat only (tenant to provide wood). It has reliable and fast internet when the power is working. The property is off-grid and powered by a reliable micro-hydro power system. Currently the micro-hydro needs a new head to function and the power is not working. However, we would come up with a plan to fix the power as part of developing a lease. The ideal tenant would be willing and able to help fix the micro-hydro system. Maintaining the micro-hydro system and associated drive lines is a major part of living on the property.

  • Kitchen

    The kitchen has one sink with cold (only) water direct from creek. Water needs some work to function properly. Fridge is electric. Stove is propane (tenant provides propane).

  • Outhouse.

    The is no flush toilet. Outhouse requires moving waste to humanure composting area. Frequency of moving waste is about every 3 months.

  • Lease Details

  • What You Need to Know

    This is a challenging but rewarding place to live. You need to be handy and hard working. The ideal tenant would have electrical, plumbing, and chainsaw experience. The property is a work in progress and requires some basic upkeep by the tenant. The owners do spend time at the property as well and would stay in the yurt when they are present (see below). Tenant would also provide basic care-taking for the yurt portion of the property. This is a good situation for a remote worker, writing, or just getting away from it all for a while. Proof of income is required. The ideal tenant would be willing and able to help fix the micro-hydro system. Maintaining the micro-hydro system and associated drive lines is a major part of living on the property.

  • Main Room of the Cabin

    The cabin has an open floor concept. It was somewhat child-proofed for a 2 year-old (note wire mesh on balcony). Applicants with children will be given full consideration. However, it should be noted that this property is a very challenging place to have young children.

  • Bedroom

    Cabin is partly furnished with bed, couch, and kitchen table. Dresser is not included.

  • Yurt

    The owners lived on the property for five years but currently live in Washington state. The owners spend several weeks a year using the yurt. The yurt would not be available for use by the tenant although some basic caretaking would be required.

  • Bathhouse

    There is a bathhouse above the yurt with an excellent wood sauna. There is a shower and tub that have running water in the summer. There is a wood fired hot tub that is currently not holding water but fixable. It is possible, but challenging, to keep water running to the bathhouse in the winter. Tenant would have full access to the bathhouse.

  • Year Round Creek

    The property has a spring-fed year round creek and abundant waterfalls. The creek powers the micro-hydro system. The micro-hydro system is currently not functioning and in need of repair. Timeline and plan for repair can be discussed during the application process. The ideal candidate would be willing able to help fix the micro-hydro system.

  • Location

    The property is located 30 minutes north of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. The exact location will be provided during the application process.
